So This One Time….At Fusion…

So today I have been mulling around in my head wondering if I had any amazingness to share with you guys today and I came up…Blank. Like Aquaman is not impressed blank.

aquaman isn't impressed

Then, I went to Church. Fusion to be exact. Fusion is the Wednesday night service at the church I have been attending here in Atlanta Victory World Church it caters to young adults so 20’s and 30’s somethings. I was running late, leaving work, but Good Ol Bestie ATL Version Tameika Meadows was already there. So here is how our text messages goes:

The Pastor for Fusion’s name is David….He wouldn’t let us go into the actual sanctuary. I came late and found about 150-200 people sitting in circles in the lobby. I’m so confused. And I’m wearing a sweater dress. This is Soooo not appropriate. And I am thinking in my head this stunt is either going to make me completely fall in love or desire to leave this church, so let’s find out what’s really going on.

So after modestly shimmying down to the floor I start listening. He’s talking about the Great Commission  in Matthew 28:19-20. “19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.  And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” NLT

Talking about how it’s important to go Out into the world and be a light and not just be a light also teach new Christians how to do and be better, so I’m like ok ok, I can dig it. THEN he says…..SOOOO were going to be handing out cards with addresses on them and you and your group are going to the local QT’s and Sonics in the area. Just get together whatever cash you have or whatever you feel like giving, if you don’t have anything that’s ok, and were gonna go in groups and buy gift cards and just hand them out at the gas stations and fast food places and just bless someone and tell them that God loves them and pray for them if they need it.

Instantly my childhood came rushing back who remembers “Be a missionary every day (clap clap clap clap) tell the world that Jesus is the way!” I’m like is he really calling us ALL out to go do what we are supposed to do like right now? And panic sets it. I mean I’m a Christian. I love God. I will talk about him at work and wherever I feel comfortable. Oops yea, that word Comfortable, and walking up on strangers in the gas station is not in my comfort zone, but hey I had Tameika and I was going to go for it.

So I joined Tameika’s group and we met at a QT with about 30-40 other people a few miles away. We were both sorta hesitant, but we bought a gift card and went outside with everyone else. (Oh yea shout out to the awesome checker on Satellite Road that handled all of us and didn’t call the cops, even though at one point Gwinnett county PD surely did a slow drive by. THE PO PO CANT STOP JESUS THO!)

We just milled around like how does this work and then two younger girls walked up to us and said. Hey are you guys new to the church do you know what to do? We really don’t know anyone. And I tell ya, something just. CLICKED I was like you find a car and I will do the talking lets go! And when I said we were fighting for cars to GIVE away money, yea it was on and popping.  A few people drove through the gas station all extra slow and then drove right back out. I think they thought we were about to start a mutiny or something. But anyway, our first car was a 98-99ish corolla with 5 boys in it. And with my pack of 4 we went rolling up on them! I was like HI! My name is DEANNA! And shook his hand. He looked all extra scared like who is this random bubbly chick at 9:15pm at night and what is she trying to sell me! So I basically told him we were with the church and we just wanted to let him Know God loves him and that we just want him to be blessed and give him a 5 dollar gift card toward his gas. When I handed him the card, you would have thought he won the lottery he hugged ALL of us, and was like man! Is this for real? YUP! Just loving you through Jesus, then we asked him if he needed prayer and he said nah I’m good I’ve had a lot of blessings come my way, then one of his homeboys in the backseat says, YO I need prayer Man. Were like ok, (by this time one of the guys in Fusion had joined us) wanna pray now? He says for real? Ya’ll would do that? We said YUP get out the car and we laid hands and prayed for him IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE QT!. YO! I LOVE this church.  It was amazing!  The second car we got the guy actually was scared to get out for 2 min with all of us standing outside his door and started backing up when we started talking. So I yelled GIMME THE CARD GIMME THE CARD HES FREAKED OUT! LOL. And handed him a $40 gift card. He said, ok what do I have to do? I said NOTHING this is what Real Christianity is about, its Free, juts like Salvation! He thanked us and looked thoroughly confused and then I thought. Wow how many people are just walking around that they don’t get to see the love of Christ because we don’t show it? I don’t know, but I know tonite changed my life. It made it apparent of how our light as Christians should shine.  So what do you do to let your light shine?

This is awesomeness at its finest!!! I have been guilty of making sharing the Gospel of Christ super difficult! This inspires me to step out of my comfort zone! i am jumping out of the box in 2013!! 🙂

On a side note: you need to be getting paid to tell stories…. just saying! 🙂
